Weddings in Panama

Why Panama

Panama is a country of stunning contrasts both culturally and environmentally. Bathed by two oceans and famous worldwide because of the Panama Canal, Panama is also home to seven indigenous peoples, several protected ecosystems including rainforest, cloud forest and pristine archipelagos, and a wide array of wildlife easily spotted during hikes and river trips. Ruins of colonial fortresses speak of epic battles between conquistadores and buccaneers while world-class adventures such as snorkeling, diving, canopy tours, jungle treks, rafting, coffee and chocolate tours, or horseback riding are available throughout the country. Panama is one of the safest and most tourist friendly countries in the Americas, boasts first class sanitary conditions and medical care, and uses the US dollar as currency.

The Ceremony

While options run the gamut, here you will find a few ideas to whet your appetite:

The quintessential Deserted Island

Who hasn’t dreamed of getting married in a postcard-perfect tropical island? Now you have the chance! The place is called Bocas del Toro, a sleepy archipelago on the Caribbean where cozy lodges are scattered among small uninhabited islands. Weddings normally take place on the beach or under the forest canopy, and pre or post-wedding activities include snorkeling excursions, canopy tours, visits to chocolate farms, sailing charters, and picnics in deserted, white-sand beaches.

A wedding with the Embera Indians

We can reach the Embera community on the Panama Canal on dugout canoes. The community will welcome us with garlands and smiles and then we will be introduced to the chief himself. The chief will perform an Embera ceremony along with the marriage officer. The women will perform some traditional dances and then children will present the couple with handcrafted Embera gifts. Then, you will enjoy a catered wedding banquet or you can transfer to one of the nearby hotels overlooking the Canal, where you can celebrate in the ballroom or in one of their beautiful restaurants.

Say “Yes” while cruising the Panama Canal

How about tying the knot while cruising the legendary Panama Canal on a beautiful catamaran? Welcome cocktail, ceremony, wedding banquet, open bar, and live music will all be included at your boat while you and your guests dance the night away and enjoy the lights of the stunning Panama City skyline.

A Wedding among Pirates and Conquistadores

This very unique event will take place in the colonial remains of the old cathedral at Panama La Vieja. Panama La Vieja is the complex that houses the ruins of Panama City’s original settlement, which was ransacked and destroyed by notorious buccaneer Henry Morgan in 1671. The beautiful venue, surrounded by ancient trees and manicured lawns, will be embellished with sets of sparkling lights and a delicious catered dinner served after the ceremony. To make it even more unique, we recommend that you turn it into a theme party where you and your guests can travel back to the time of the colony and dress as either pirates or conquistadores!
